Bio Village
The Facility
The Ethanol plant’s production of 140 million liters/Yr (37.5 million US gal) will primarily use wheat as feedstock.
The Site
The Strathmore site is strategically located in the center of the wheat and canola producing areas of Southern Alberta. Our unique location, adjacent to a large beef feedlot, will allow for the sale of wet distillers’ grains to Cattleland Feedyards Ltd. The remaining balance of the Wet Distillers Grains will be sold to other nearby operations.
By not drying the Wet Distillers Grains, this represents significant emission reductions and economic savings from not burning additional natural gas to dry this ethanol byproduct. Drying is a function of distance from market; all of the Wet Distillers Grains will be consumed within the same relatively small radius that produces the wheat negating the need to dry.
In addition, the site has excellent accessibility to highways, allowing for easy transportation of feedstock in, end product out and co-products to market; all of which can be easily transported by truck.
A particular advantage to the CR Fuels plant is its proximity to tank storage in Southeast Calgary. This tank storage serves as the Southern Alberta distribution facility for various companies that serve the Calgary market and the rest of Alberta south to the U.S. border.
